Acton Academy

Acton Academy Wausau is a completely private school. We do not receive any state funding nor are we subject to state mandated testing or curriculum. When Acton Academy Wausau was founded we chose private, because of the limitations of the Charter school model. It takes at least two years to complete the process to apply for a Charter from the local... school board -- we wanted to launch more quickly than that. A Charter must be renewed by the school board every five years -- which means they can be denied and force the closing of the school, which has happened in Wisconsin. Charter schools are bound to the local school district's union contracts -- this contract currently precludes our expanded school year and constrains our ability to hire staff we feel will best implement our method.
