Firstly, Active Africa is not a tour operator - we do not offer set itineraries or run our own departures under the Active Africa banner. In fact, our brand is rarely seen in the field; rather we adopt and protect the brand integrity of our clients. Established in 2001, the company was the joint venture of two friends who wanted to combine their pa... ssion for walking, climbing and trekking with the lifestyle offered by the tourism industry. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, the company initially operated a variety of walking, trekking and adventure programs within Southern Africa. By 2006, under sole ownership, we had focused our efforts on an area that was keeping us extremely busy - guiding and tour leading. This led to the evolution of Active Africa as it is today, a tourism resource providing guiding services and tour operator representation to tour operators and independent travellers worldwide. Owner Chris Goodwin would describe the 'who' of Active Africa as a database of exceptional guides; but we are so much more than that, with many years of collective tourism consulting, guiding and tour leading experience in Africa and worldwide.
