Abbott EMS

Abbott Ambulance was established in 1969, and since that time has provided continuous emergency medical services, under the same management, to all of St. Louis City and County. The successor corporation was Affiliated Medical Transport Inc. d/b/a Abbott Ambulance, which was formed in January 1984, when Abbott became a not-for-profit subsidiary of... Saint Louis University . The current corporation is Abbott Ambulance, Inc., which was incorporated September 6, 1988, and is now an independent community resource sponsored by Saint Louis University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center. Abbott, a not-for-profit corporation, is the largest ambulance service provider in Missouri, and one of the largest in the country. Abbott has an Illinois division, known as Abbott Lifeforce EMS. Abbott Lifeforce is also a nonprofit agency, and is a region-wide provider covering St. Clair and Madison counties. Abbott also owns and operates IHM Health Studies Center, the area's largest training school for EMTs and paramedics, and the only nationally accredited paramedic program in Missouri. A high percentage of all paramedics employed by Abbott and local municipal fire departments/fire protection districts have been trained by IHM. Continuing medical education and recertification training are provided on a continuous basis to Abbott personnel, as well as to other EMS personnel throughout the area. In response to community need, Abbott has made available to the metropolitan area other services and resources including Abbott A-Trans, Abbott Services Call Center, and IHM Health Studies Center. Just as Abbott Ambulance enjoys an impeccable reputation for quality, Abbott A-Trans is known for its excellent and reliable service to its clients.
