Within Abbot Group, we have always recognised the importance of protecting the safety and welfare of our employees, the environment and the importance of our role in the community. We have developed and successfully implemented our policies and procedures for the management of safety and the environment and the protection of the welfare of our empl... oyees. Responsibility for ensuring compliance with these policies rests at the highest level within the Group and is cascaded down throughout the organisation. We ensure that everyone within the organisation is aware of their responsibilities in meeting our objectives. Social, Environmental and Ethical (SEE) risks are considered at main Board level under our more general risk assessment regime. SEE risks are considered within our CSR Forum led by the Chief Operating Officer and comprising key members of the Board of Directors and the heads of the business units. The CSR Forum sets the policies and direction, and identifies priorities for CSR management within the Group. The issues raised by the Forum are cascaded through the Group by the Business Unit Directors. To support the delivery of our SEE commitment we have developed HSE and CSR policies together with a management system and supporting procedures and guidelines to define how we manage social, environmental and ethical issues. We first made a commitment to adopt the principles of the UN Global Compact in 2002. Over the years we have aimed to improve our performance across all of our Core Values and the principles addressed by the Global Compact and report our progress in our annual CSR Report. Over the years, we have reported on our progress in ensuring that all the principles have been met.
