Founded in 1949 by the City of Billings Fire Fighters, Rimrock Credit Union initially operated out of the trunk of a car. By December 31, 1949, Rimrock Credit Union served 16 members and had $63.11 in assets. Membership grew to include the City of Billings Police Department and eventually all employees of the City of Billings and Yellowstone County... . Additional membership expansion allowed for persons with registrations issued by the City of Billings or Yellowstone County, employees of adjoining counties to Yellowstone County, and all taxpayers paying $50 or more in property taxes in those adjoining counties. With mergers of MDU employees, SuperValu employees, and union construction employees, Rimrock Credit Union has grown to hold assets of over $37 million and serve more than 3,500 members.
