Mississauga Mandarin Association (MMA) is a registered Canadian not-for-profit charity (BN: 863170320RR0001) organization. The organization has been serving local residents of Peel since 1999. MMA strives to be a productive agent to facilitate the establishing and sustaining of a vibrant and strong Chinese community in the Peel Region. As a charity... , MMA has been actively and effectively helping to raise funds for Canadian Red Cross, United Way of Greater Toronto, Trillium Health Partners Foundation. MMA's services and programs fall in two major categories: For younger generation: to advocate for the youth empowerment. MMA has designed and implemented a young leadership program. Under the supervision of dedicated staff from MMA, the program participants (mainly high school students) will have opportunities to design, lead, organize and carry one specific program within three to six months period. Each participant will be assigned one or more roles. This program is overwhelmingly appreciated by high school students and their parents because it's enormously more valuable than just fulfilling the 40-hour volunteering requirement. Here is why: not only the participants get the chance to actually find out their potential or to sharpen their existing skills, after the program completes, MMA will provide an official review on the performance of each participant, based on the role, assignment, skills, outcome and creativity. This review is a very helpful plus in their application to universities. For seniors: to promote active living. MMA organizes sports and activities for seniors: golfing, field trips, workshops of interests: photography, computer literacy, traditional Chinese arts, etc. MMA also hosts large scale event such as the Dragon Lion Dance Festival at the Celebration Square at downtown core of Mississauga, as well as the Spring Festival, Summer Fun Time, Mid-autumn Gala, Christmas party.
