MLK Community Health Foundation

The MLK Community Health Foundation (MLKCHF) is dedicated to raising and stewarding financial support for Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital and its work to improve health in South Los Angeles. We unite community, civic and philanthropic leaders to invest in healthcare access, nationally recognized quality, and compassionate care. Since 201... 2, MLKCHF has funded best-in-class maternity services, a nurse residency and fellowship program, an integrated behavioral health program, a multi-specialty nonprofit medical group, expanded diagnostic and treatment services, a clinic for high-risk patients, and more. Our work includes the recently dedicated Hope Emergency Center. In partnership with our supporters, we bring healthcare and prevention to over 100,000 patients and families in South Los Angeles every year. Although South Los Angeles still faces inequitiesa high poverty rate, a critical physician gap of 1,200, some of the worst health outcomes in the nationit is also a community where investments are being made. Jordan Downs is being redeveloped with new housing, community center, retail and healthy food options. Childrens Institute is building a new campus. Magic Johnson Park is expanding. A new library and a senior center stand where empty lots once stretched. Construction is underway on a behavioral health center on the MLK Campus. A new medical office building with expanded outpatient services and physician consultation opens in 2020. Thanks in part to the work of the Foundation in support of the initiatives, programs, and services of MLKCH, the outlook for South Los Angeles is changing.
