Frank Keating is the famed former two-term governor of Oklahoma. Within three months of taking office, on April 19, 1994 the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was destroyed, in which the lives of 168 Oklahomans were lost and over 800 people were injured. The blast destroyed or damaged more than 300 buildings in the surrounding area, leaving several hundred people homeless and shutting down business. Governor Keating mobilized relief and rescue teams to handle the crisis. Over 12,000 people participated in relief and rescue operations in the days following the blast. During the Reagan Administration, Mr. Keating served as U.S. Attorney for the N.D. of Oklahoma, Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Treasury Department and as Associate Attorney General of the United States. Under President George H. W. Bush, Mr. Keating served as General Counsel and Acting Deputy Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development with Secretary Jack Kemp. Prior to his service as the U.S. Attorney, Mr. Keating was an FBI agent. As Associate Attorney General, Mr. Keating had supervisory responsibility over all of the U.S. Attorneys. At the Treasury Department, he had oversight over the U.S. Secret Service; U.S. Customs; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; U.S. Marshals; the Bureau of Prisons; the Immigration and Naturalization Service; and all 94 U.S. Attorneys.
