Wayne A. Denman Wayne A. DenmanWayne Arnold Denman, 78, of Danville, passed away at 3:59 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 3, 2002) at Provena USMC, Logan campus in Danville.He was born June 27, 1924, at East Lynn, III., the only son of Jay A. Denman and Mary Ella Arnold.He graduated from East Lynn High School in 1942 where he was a stand-out athlete in both basketball and baseball, being an Honorable Mention for the Chicago Tribune AII-State Basketball Team of 1942 even though he attended a high school of less than 70 students.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II serving in the European Theatre.A graduate of both Illinois State University and the University of Illinois, he completed a 38-year career with Danville District #118 schools in 1986.He was a teacher at Franklin, Garfield, Washington, McKinley, Tilton, and Cannon Schools and was also an elementary coach of basketball, football, swimming, and track.Principal of Garfield and Franklin schools, he then served as the director of Elementary Education for the Danville Public Schools from 1963-1974.His last years teaching were spent at Cannon School.He enjoyed sports, collecting vintage cars, and being with his family to whom he was devoted.His great-grandparents, the Nathan Merritt Arnolds, were among the first settlers of the East Lynn area and he owned a portion of the original family farm south of East Lynn homesteaded shortly after the conclusion of the Civil War.He married Marjorie Ann Klaman, daughter of Franklin and Anna Klaman, on June 5, 1948, at St. Paul's Church where he attended the past 54 years.She survives.A wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, he is also survived by a son, Mark Denman, and a daughter, Ann Denman (William) Blair, Danville, a son, Gregory E. (Janet) Denman, Lexington Park, Md.; five grandchildren: Jay and Timothy Wayne O'Blenis, Danville, and Marjorie, Mark, and Judith Denman, Lexington Park, Md.; two nieces, Diane (Rogers) Brackmann of St. Charles and Kimberly Klaman of Herrin; a nephew, David (Alice Sue) Montgomery of McMurray, Pa.; and a brother-in-law, Harold J. Klaman of Danville.He was preceded by one sister, Doris Denman (Howard) Montgomery, and one sister-in-Iaw, Shirley (Harold) Klaman.Funeral services 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at St. Paul's Catholic Church with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery, with full military rites by American Legion Post 210.Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center with a 7 p.m. wake service; In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.
