Dr. Van der Vyver is and has been involved in the promotion of human rights in South Africa, and is former ad hominem professor of law at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and the Potschefstroom University for Christian Higher Education.A specialist in international human rights, international criminal law, the law of armed conflict, and comparative constitutional law, he also served as a fellow in the Human Rights Program of Emory University's Carter Center from 1995 to 1998.Dr. Van der Vyver is the author of Leuven Lectures on Religious Institutions, Religious Communities, and Rights, and also The Juridical Function of State and Church: A Critical Analysis of the Doctrine of Sphere Sovereignty.He holds a B.A. and LL.B. from Potschefstroom University, and an LL.D. from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
