Eberhardt entered the courtroom with spring in his step, happy to have been called first.
The first one called is usually the first to leave. Behling told the judge that Eberhardt could authenticate the Guatemalan passport because he was a forensic expert in matters related to foreign documents. Eberhardt works for Homeland Security in the forensic lab for the Office of Immigration and Customs. He's a specialist. "I've examined more than 1,000 passports in more than 500 cases," he said, confidently. "On December 25 of 2005 I examined the documents in the Luis Posada Carriles case," he testified. With nothing more to ask Eberhardt, Behling dismissed him.

Troy Eberhardt Troy Eberhardt is a Forensic Document Examiner at the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Forensic Document Laboratory (FDL). He graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelors of Science degree and is a Board Certified Forensic Examiner with the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners (ABFDE). Troy started his career in the field of forensics approximately 12 years ago while employed with the New Orleans Police Department. He has been employed with the Forensic Document Laboratory since June of 2003, where he is a Senior Forensic Document Examiner assigned to the Special Projects Section. Troy has conducted numerous workshops and training seminars around the world on current trends and techniques utilized in the detection of fraudulent documents. Currently, he has been tasked with the responsibility of identifying and developing new capabilities to advance the laboratory's adversarial analysis section. This project requires him to stay abreast of the latest technological advances within the security document industry. He has gained extensive knowledge in common commercially available technologies used in the alteration and or creation of counterfeit documents. As part of the Special Projects Section, he is responsible for maintaining the scientific instrumentation and identifying new technologies that could assist in the detection of fraudulent documents.
