Timothy Pigg
Firefighter Timothy Pigg, originally from Horsepasture, will be honored for his service at the annual Virginia Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service on Saturday. The service will be held at noon at the Richmond International Raceway Complex’s Old Dominion Building. Pigg died of a heart attack in August 2009, according to his father, Phillip Pigg. According to the Virginia Department of Fire Programs website, Timothy Pigg joined the Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Department at age 18. In 1987, he moved to Amherst and joined the Amherst Fire Department. Pigg was a volunteer member of the Amherst Fire Department for more than 20 years. In 1993, he was elected captain, and in 2008, he was elected second assistant chief. Pigg received the “Fireman of Year†award in January 1998 for most calls run and most number of hours served at the station in 1997.
