The technical term, Mechatronics, was coined by Mr. Tetsuro Mori, CEO / President, Seibu Electric and Machinery Co.Ltd., in 1969 when he worked for Yaskawa Electric Corporation in Kitakyushu in order to propose the new technology to produce new machine tools by integrating machines and electronics. 'Mechatronics' is hence the word which means to open a new road toward the bright future. This time the 6th ICMT goes back to Kitakyushu, the birthplace of 'Mechatronics', to recognize the meaning of Mechatronics Technology again, and to promote the new great progress of Mechatronics Technology.The first ICMT was convened in Santa Clara, USA(1996), and subsequently in Yokohama, Japan(1997), in Hsinchu, Taiwan(1998), in Pusan, Korea(1999), and Singapare(2001). The objective of ICMT is to facilitate close dialogue among experts on issues relating to research and technological development in mechatronics.This conference promotes strong interactions between academic and industry in all the aspects of mechatronics technology, including human resource development and education.
