Sunny Neji
Born on October 24th, 1965 in Lagos to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Neji, Sunny, the youngest of five kids (three boys, two girls) had his primary education between 1972 and 1978 in Ogoja, Cross River State, his home town. Sunny Neji's active involvement with music began at an early stage. As a boy he participated in cultural performance while in School. By 1987 he ventured into recording earning a reputation in the jingle production scene in no time.1991 brought the release of his debut album, Captain on EMI. He joined Colors Band with which he performed as the lead singer for five years. In 2002, Sunny Neji lent a hand and voice to Now Muzik's Touch of Genius: Tribute Album to the Legendary Sir, Victor Uwaifo project and scored again with his reinterpretation of the classic Joromi. Sunny Neji raised his golden voice in a piercing call for support for the victims with the single, Victim Of Circumstance as well as the massive benefit concert at Lagos television ground to mark the first anniversary of the January 27 bomb blast. He also recorded the single Wake Up! in 2003 to challenge Nigeria to vote right in the general election. These special projects helped to set the tune for his fourth full-length album Unchained, recorded in Ghana and released on Ojez Music. Oruka and Face Me, the pre-release singles, hit the air waves and assured every one that another monster hit had dropped. The success of Unchained set the tone for a long list of landmark achievements to follow. In 2005, Neji signed what was then the biggest endorsement deal for a Nigerian recording artiste when he was named brand ambassador of the Obudu Cattle Ranch. A Best Male (West Africa) Kora Award 2005, Best Highlife Artiste and "Oruka" Song of the Year, Nigeria Music Awards (UK), 2006, and a tour of Europe and America followed. Sunny Neji was also snapped up as brand face for Chi Exotic. The audacious OFF DA HOOK (2006- reissued as ROCK STEADY in 2007), showed the artist's range and versatility but didn't quite hit the same commercial height as the preceding two releases. The wave of success continued though and in 2007, he emerged Artist of the Decade at the resurgent Nigerian Music Awards. Sunny Neji was unveiled as an ambassador of leading telecoms brand, Glo in early 2008 further validating his enduring popularity and profile as an outstanding artiste and exemplary role model. Sunny Neji is married to Peace and together they have three adorable daughters. Sunny Neji Sunny Neji
