Steve Chappell, VP, N. Texas Steve Chappell, Dallas As vice president of our North Texas region and general manager of ARC Abatement's Dallas office, Steve Chappell the Dallas asbestos abatement expert. He has a wealth of knowledge on asbestos, lead and mold abatement practices. Chappell has experience as an instructor for the State of Texas on environmental contracting. He is a well-known speaker on topics about the dangers of asbestos, asbestos abatement and removal and other major environmental issues. After working as a sub-contractor for many years, Chappell joined ARC in 1996 when the company expanded to open its second office in Dallas. As vice president of the north Texas region, Chappell manages asbestos abatement and removal projects that include large commercial projects for a variety of clients including property owners, management companies, general contractors, insurance companies and environmental consultants. Chappell's environmental and construction career began in 1981 after attending Southwest Bible College. He is married with two children and a grandchild. Dallas Asbestos Abatement Projects Likely the largest asbestos abatement project in the state of Texas, 1401 Elm Street in downtown Dallas is perfectly suited for Steve Chappell. Elm Place is 52-stories and 1.3 million square feet. A challenging aspect of the project is the sheer volume of materials to be abated is approximately five million square feet of materials. His crews are using of 12 of the 27 operating elevators to move the materials. After a change of ownership delayed the project for several months, ARC got back on the job when the redevelopment was back on track under the new ownership. Chappell says ARC will tackle the bottom seven floors plus two lower level floors. He says the crew will increase from 60 to 80-100 workers to complete the project in November. The estimated completion date of this eight-figure contract is the end of 2016. Chappell is managing the asbestos abatement on approximately one million SF at a section of a hospital campus which is no longer in use. His crews will remove hazardous material from the historic location before a partner company completes a mechanical take-down technique on a portion of the facility. These precautionary steps are being taken because renovation work is being done in proximity to another functioning segment of the hospital. Chappell turned over the "asbestos free" site to the demolition company on time and in budget.
