In response to the reports, Siobhán O'Hegarty, senior programme manager at the IOM, said that while she could not comment on specific cases for reasons of client confidentiality, the organisation was aware of cases of exploitation in the State. The IOM provides resettlement, repatriation and transportation assistance for migrants. It provided services to around 70 unaccompanied minors in the State over the last 12 months."From our caseload we have had cases of unaccompanied minors who were exploited and were victims of trafficking, without a shadow of a doubt," Ms O'Hegarty said. She added: "Young children don't tend to have the resources to disappear on their own, and if a child does disappear, it's hard to believe they're moving on themselves."
