At its October meeting, the Board of Directors reelected Bill Ailor to another term as president, reelected Mike Kilroy vice president, Nell Mirels as treasurer, and Shirley Borks as secretary.
Borks, in her third term as Secretary, joined the Board in 1993. She is a retired teacher and serves on the boards of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Coordinating Council and the Community Association of the Peninsula (CAP), and the Advisory Board of the Southern California Regional Occupation Center (SCROC) Foundation. She is immediate past president of the local chapter of the League of Women Voters. Borks was the Torrance YWCA Woman of the Year in 1988, CAP's Community Service Award winner in 1988, and CAP's Agnes Moss Award winner in 1995. She was presented the PTA's Honorary Life Award in 1990.

Board members Bill Ailor, Shirley Borks, Ken Servis, Allen Franz, Mike Kilroy, Hugh Muller, Eric Randall, and Anke Raue were reelected to two year terms at the Conservancy's October meeting.
Shirley Borks, reelected to the secretarial position she has held since joining the Board in 1993, is a retired educator. Borks is well known on the Peninsula, having served on Boards of the Community Association of the Peninsula (CAP), Palos Verdes League of Women Voters, South Bay Audubon Society, the South Coast Botanic Garden Foundation, and the Southern California Regional Occupation Center (SCROC). She has received a variety of awards for her volunteer service, including Torrance YWCA's Woman of the Year in 1988 and the Conservancy's President's Award in 1996.

President's Awards to Shirley Borks, June Schwarzmann, and Deena Sheridan (left to right in photo) highlighted an afternoon of fine food and fellowship at the Conservancy's annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic, held on October 6 at the Caballeros Ring picnic area in Rolling Hills.
Shirley Borks has been secretary of the Conservancy Board for the last three years, and has taken leadership positions on several activities; most notably, co-chairing the 1996 Picture Palos Verdes Photography Contest.

Borks Receives 1998 Status of Women Award
Conservancy Secretary Shirley Borks received the 1998 "Status of Women" award from the Palos Verdes branch of the American Association of University Women. Borks received the award in recognition of her extensive community service on the Peninsula. Our congratulations to Shirley for this acknowledgment of her excellent and continuing contributions to our community!
