Satya Bhattacharya has worked as a Consultant Surgeon at the Royal London and St Bartholomew's Hospitals in London since 1999.
He looks after his private patients at the London Clinic, the BMI London Independent Hospital, the Princess Grace Hospital and the King Edward VII Hospital. He is the Clinical Lead for the multi-disciplinary team for liver and pancreas cancer (HPB MDT) in North-East London. His clinical interests, apart from gallstone surgery, include surgery of the liver, pancreas and bile duct, particularly keyhole and open surgery to remove tumours of the liver and pancreas. He also performs general surgery, such as repair of hernias. In addition to his clinical work, he is Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary, University of London. He has over 50 publications in surgical journals and serves as a referee (peer reviewer) for 4 international surgical journals. He is active in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and was a Member of the Court of Examiners, Royal College of Surgeons of England for seven years. He is an Adviser/Referee to the NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme. He has raised over £350,000 for research into pancreatic and liver disease in the past years. This has been utilised in running several research projects at the Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Satya grew up in Mumbai, India, and qualified as a doctor from the Grant Medical College. He trained in specialist surgery of the liver, pancreas and bile ducts at the Royal Free and University College Hospitals, London. He was a visiting Fellow at the University of Minnesota with a grant received from the King's Fund. Satya was listed in the Tatler Doctors Guide 2013 as one of of Britain's "250 best consultants".
