Samuel Chu, who heads synagogue organizing for MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, just returned from Hong Kong, where his father, Reverend Chu Yiu-ming, cofounded OccupyCentral? and is one of the leaders of the umbrella democracy movement there.
Samuel will speak at 2 pm, November 2 in the Chapel at Adath Jeshurun Congregation about this movement that demands universal suffrage - the right to vote for their leader in democratic elections beginning in 2017. Samuel also sits on the Board of OneLA, which organizes congregations, nonprofits and other groups, training them in practical skills they need to engage on important social justice issues of the day.
