Roger Gammon, MD Roger S. Gammon, M.D. is the Medical Director of Research & Interventional Cardiologist with Austin Heart has been the principal investigator of more than 50 trials and sub-investigator of 20 clinical trials. Dr. Gammon's stem cell research is focused on adult stem cell applications in patients after Acute Myocardial Infarction (MI) and in patients with Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI) due to Peripheral Vascular Disease. The results from a Phase I trial for which he was a lead PI were published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and reported that patients were treated safely with intravenous adult human mesenchymal stem after a heart attack. In addition, these patients had fewer arrhythmias, improved heart and lung function, and improvement in overall condition. He is a now principal investigator conducting the Phase II, Multi-center study evaluating the safety and efficacy of adult human mesenchymal stem cells for acute myocardial infarction.

"The gross reimbursement amount can be attractive, but when you look at what's required, it can be negative," explains Roger Gammon, M.D., director of research at Austin Heart, a cardiology practice in Austin.
Gammon, for example, regularly distributes fliers and talks up protocols during practice meetings. "I won't establish any financial interest in any company that I'm doing research for, and I have no financial interest in any companies whose products (like stents) that I use," says Gammon.
