Designer Rochelle Behrens.
Plagued by "blouse gap" while working as a DC lobbyist, Rochelle Behrens had to avoid the awkward wardrobe malfunction. She found little luck with short-term solutions to closing gaps at the bust line-safety pins, double-sided tape, and metal hooks-and, before long, she sought a more permanent fix. After just one prototype, the Capitol Hill regular finally discovered the solution: Dual buttons placed on exterior and interior plackets. With that plan and her corresponding patent on the technology, she launched The Shirt, dedicated to confident, gap-free versatility, in 2008. There is no complicated algorithm of bust to waist to height," Behrens explains. Behrens says with a laugh. She aims to please Washington's powerful, put-together women. "Our customer is young, urbane, professional, and modern. She cares about fashion, but also about simplifying her life and not overthinking getting dressed for work in the mornings," Behrens muses. The newest offerings make a statement, but Behrens still has a soft spot for her original design. "I really love the new silk bicycle shirt. But if I had to choose one must-have piece this season, it'd be the perfect white shirt," she reveals.

While Taylor is the youngest client Deyrmenjian has worked with, age was never a factor in their mentor-mentee relationship: "Talent-wise, Isabella wasn't at all different from my other clients," says Deyrmenjian, who has also coached Rochelle Behrens, founder of The Shirt, and Gretchen Jones, winner of season eight of Project Runway.

The Shirt by Rochelle Behrens CEO and Founder, The Shirt by Rochelle Behrens ROI participation: 2013 ROI Summit Rochelle Behrens grew up outside San Diego, CA, before attending the University of Pennsylvania, which launched her life on the East Coast. Majoring in both art history and political science, Rochelle was always drawn to duality, such as the game of politics and a love for creating and looking at beautiful things. After time spent at W Magazine in New York City, and then as a White House intern, Rochelle moved to Washington, DC, upon graduation to pursue politics at a lobbying firm. Among her more interesting clients was working with America's small foie gras industry. But her work took second fiddle to an emerging problem that she faced: ill-fitting button down shirts. Convinced that her uniform of button down shirts for the office was the best way to connote professionalism, she realized that they rarely fit properly, namely at the bust. Rochelle set out to create the perfect button down shirt for women. She patented a technology seamlessly built into every button down shirt she manufactures that eliminates blouse-gape. Ultimately, combining her interests led her to be featured in Inc. Magazine's "30 Under 30" list, profiled in The New York Times and featured on the Today Show. Rochelle is also a contributor to the Huffington Post and frequently speaks on entrepreneurship. Rochelle founded and currently serves as CEO to her company, The Shirt by Rochelle Behrens. She believes in empowering women by providing them with shirts that actually fit as well as they look, inspiring confidence in and out of the boardroom. Rochelle sent The Shirt with its patented technology for the perfect fit to Oprah who named it her "Must-Have Fashion Item of the Year" on The Oprah Winfrey Show. While The Shirt is very much about looking and feeling good, it is as much about making women feel confident. As a young female entrepreneur, Rochelle has also become a leader in her sector. She has spoken at Harvard, Stanford and UCLA's business schools to promote entrepreneurship among women. Rochelle's own experience circuitously led her to do everything she ever hoped to do - combining her interest in the arts with business. And so she always encourages women to pursue their ideas and to do it on their terms.
