Canon David Wastie was instituted as Rector of St. Michael's Church, Winchester, VA on April 27, 2002, by The Rt. Rev. Robert Waggener, Bishop of the Southern States. The Rev. John Upham was instituted as Rector of St. George's, Raleigh, NC on May 30, 2002, by Bishop Waggener. The Rev. John Sharpe was instituted as Vicar of St. Mark's, Durham, NC on June 2, 2002, by Bishop Waggener. The Rev. William Wiygul, as Rector of Holy Comforter, Montevallo, AL, has retired from that parish.

Bishop Robert F. Waggener has relinquished his Continuing Anglican episcopacy for priesthood in the Western Rite Vicariate of the Antiochian Orthodox Church.He and his parishioners were received as catechumens March 5 at Christ Church in Lynchburg, Virginia, after which Waggener was to be ordained to the Orthodox priesthood.It was the latest in a series of ecclesiastical moves by Waggener, and at least the third in which others followed him to his new affiliation.A onetime Episcopal Church cleric who served in the Dioceses of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Washington, D.C., Waggener has been (inter alia) a bishop in the Episcopal Missionary Church, in the Anglican Province of Christ the King, and most recently in a split-off from the APCK, the Diocese of the Holy Cross, from which he is now leading a group into Western Rite Orthodoxy."I sincerely hope he finds a place he can exercise a stable ministry in Western Rite Orthodoxy, as stability has eluded him through most of his ministry," said one of Waggener's former clergy.Waggener is evidently the first Continuing Anglican bishop to convert to the Antiochian Church's Western Rite. n
