Robert Machowski has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of ULS Mineral Resource Projects ("ULS"), the multi-disciplinary mining, processing and infrastructure project development house serving clients in the mining industry.
ULS was developed out of a partnership between UWP Consulting and LogiProc. Robert's background in mining and mineral processing, combined with strong project management experience, will provide the leadership needed to drive the Venture's future success. Robert graduated with a BSc Eng (Extractive Metallurgy - Minerals Processing) in 1995 and completed his postgraduate MBA in 2003. While completing his studies, he spent eight years gaining experience with the Anglo American Corporation in South Africa before moving on to join the De Beers group of companies. Over the next 16 years, he moved up through the ranks from graduate trainee to Research Officer, Senior Plant Metallurgist, Process Engineer, Metallurgist and Senior Analyst, working mainly in Southern Africa. He also spent a year in Canada's Arctic where he was involved in a new mine development project (Snap Lake), which today is an operating diamond mine. In 2007 he joined the Bateman Group as a Senior Process Engineer, subsequently occupying the positions of Technical Manager, Chief Consultant, Engineering and Process Manager, and finally Director: Technology. Between 2009 and 2012 he obtained invaluable practical experience in the Russian mining environment whilst working in the Bateman Moscow office. Prior to accepting his current appointment with ULS in May 2013, Robert was the General Manager (Engineering and Process) for Tenova Mining and Minerals, based in both Johannesburg and Moscow, Russia. Robert brings hands on experience in mine and mining project development, and various types of technical studies. His project specific experience covers copper, nickel, gold, coal and diamond commodities for new and existing mining operations. Other specific areas of expertise may be grouped into the following: Robert is a registered member of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) as well as a professional engineer (PrEng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). In his spare time he participates in adventure sports such as mountain biking, mountain skiing (snow permitting), power kiting (of various kinds) and enjoys some serious bush-camping with his wife Edith and children, Gabriela (12) and Erik (7). Robert Machowski obtained his BSc degree in Extractive Metallurgy (BSc Min Proc) from the University of Witwatersrand in 1991, and in 2003 was awarded his MBA by the same institution. Robert's areas of excellence include minerals process modelling and design, conducting feasibility studies based on project economic valuation and resource reserve quantification, due diligence and project processes auditing, as well as project engineering and project management. Robert has a particular passion for strategy development and implementation, including the establishment and development of new business units. Robert's metallurgical skills base encompasses a broad range of minerals, complemented by diverse experience gained from assignments in South Africa, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Canada, Australia, Botswana, Namibia, and elsewhere in sub-Saharan Africa. Robert is fully proficient in English, Afrikaans, Polish, and Russian whilst he can speak and read German.
