Richard E. Leja - 3rd Ward Alderman Richard Leja Richard E. Leja, Candidate for 3rd Ward Alderman A Berwyn resident since the 1980s, Richard grew up in Chicago, and was a union painter (IBPAT Local 191) from 1978 until his retirement in 2015. A Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, Richard is a member of the Berwyn Historical Society. He chaired the history and research committee for the Viet Nam Moving Wall during its Berwyn visit in 2014, and served as Public Outreach Liaison for MacNeal Hospital from 2008-2015. Of proud Polish descent, Richard is a Knight of Columbus, 4th Degree, was on the St. Leonard School board and pastoral councils for three years each; and is currently head usher at the 9:30 AM Sunday Mass at St. Odilo Catholic Church. Since 2003, Richard has been the chairperson of his neighborhood's annual block party. His children grew up in the Sokol gymnastics organization, to which Richard has belonged since 2005. Richard has been married to his wife Pat since 1976. They have three children: their oldest son is veteran of the United States Marine Corps, who served two tours in Iraq and now works as a filmmaker in Los Angeles; their second son lives in China, where he teaches English; and one daughter, who is an event planner. Richard has been an active member of the community for decades, is well-known in the 3rd ward, and looks forward to serving his neighbors as alderman. Richard asks for your vote; he will be attentive, responsive and always available to his constituents, and hopes to bring his organizational skills and awareness of the importance of history, family and culture to the city for the benefit of all Berwyn residents.
