Research and Industry Partnership Manager, STRIDE Program of USAID Richard Abendan Research and Industry Partnership Manager, STRIDE Program of USAID Richard is with RTI International, a non-profit research and technical services company headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA. He is currently the Research and Industry Partnerships Manager of the STRIDE (Science, Technology, Research and Innovation for Development) Program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). His portfolio of activities under the STRIDE program brings about effective collaborations between industry and academe toward more innovative products and companies in the Philippines. He also provides technical oversight of industry-academe research and development grants funded by USAID through STRIDE. He was an adjunct professor of Chemistry at Ateneo de Manila University, directing undergraduate thesis research into solid state pharmaceutical materials. Prior to this he was a Principal Scientist with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in North Carolina; serving on various pharmaceutical research and development teams. Projects include drug compounds for respiratory, metabolic, oncology, and viral therapies from pre-formulation to Phase 2 clinical trials. While at GSK he also directed research into using nanotechnology techniques to study drug substances and delivery systems; and has authored analytical protocols and regulatory submissions for GSK. Richard has a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Georgetown University in Washington DC, and has authored peer-reviewed scientific papers and presentations in the United States. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Chemistry at the Ateneo de Manila University.
