Rebecca Elon, MD, MPH
Rebecca Elon, MD, MPH Chief Medical Officer Dr. Rebecca Elon joined FutureCare Health and Management as the organization's full-time corporate medical director in September 2011, after working for the company as a part-time medical director for more than a decade. As Chief Medical Officer, she is responsible for coordinating, monitoring and improving the medical care for patients and residents who choose FutureCare. Since moving to Baltimore in 1991, Dr. Elon has worked for several local hospitals and healthcare organizations. From 1991 to 1997, she worked as a full-time faculty member in geriatric medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and served as Medical Director of the Johns Hopkins Geriatrics Center. From 1997 to 2007, she worked for North Arundel Hospital (now Baltimore-Washington Medical Center) as Chief of Geriatric Medicine and Medical Director of North Arundel Senior Care. During her decade at BWMC, Dr. Elon also worked as a part time medical director for FutureCare. From 2007 to 2011, she served as Medical Director of Lorien Columbia Health Care Center and from 2009 to 2011, she also served as Associate Medical Director of Gilchrist Hospice Care, part of the GBMC Healthcare system. Dr. Elon earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and a master's degree in public health from the University of Texas, both located in Houston. She is board certified in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, hospice care and palliative medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is certified in wound care through the Council on Medical Education Testing (CMET) and is a fellow in the Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing (FAPWHc). Dr. Elon is a fellow of the American Geriatrics Society, where she served as an elected board member from 2003-2006 and earned the Society's "Geriatrician of the Year" award in 2007. Additionally, she is a fellow and member of the American College of Physicians, and is a member of the American Medical Director's Association, the Maryland Medical Director's Association and Med Chi, the Maryland State Medical Society. Dr. Elon says that working for a locally-owned company has given her an expanded appreciation of Baltimore and Maryland. As medical director for FutureCare, she enjoys having the opportunity to visit various communities and be part of a company that promotes "neighbors caring for neighbors." Dr. Elon is married to Dr. William Adler, former Chief of Clinical Immunology at the National Institute of Aging.
