Partners for Stennis Space Center Meets August 31st - Hancock Partners for Stennis

Ray Greer of Stantec is the speaker.
His company is working with the Gulf Regional Planning Commission (GRPC), NCBC and Coast stakeholders to identify compatible land uses and growth management guidelines near the Western Maneuver Area, NCBC and the Woolmarket Small Arms Range.

"And what we are looking at is long range," said Ray Greer, a senior project manager for the land-planning firm Stantec, who represented the applicant.
"Bay County has a Comprehensive Plan that looks out 20 years, and we're planning 20 years down the road. There are no immediate development plans tomorrow for this property, but we are looking long range. What we wanted to do was make sure that we've got a plan in place that allows this entire area to grow." Greer said the amendment resulted after his firm worked with county staff for more than a year on how to best plan for the property. "Looking at this piece of property, it is the last large contiguous tract that remains in this area," he said. He said the mission was to make sure the land uses were best suited for the property. "We left the wetlands out," Greer said. "This tract of land is timbered, and the large wetland areas, the remaining swampy wetland areas, we left them all in agricultural land use. That way they will never be developed." Greer said on the suitable upland areas, a mixture of land uses has been designated - mixed-use, commercial and residential, "so this area can develop in a more sustainable way."

Land use planner Ray Greer with Stantec, the firm hired by Holmes County Development Commission to conceptualize a master plan for the industrial property, gave the commission a recap of how plans had been reviewed in recent months by state agencies.
The county's plan for industrial development was submitted to Department of Environmental Protection, Northwest Florida Water Management District, Department of Education, Department of Agriculture and Department of Economic Opportunity.
