Prior to that time, Ms. Steckel worked on various projects with Ronald S. Lauder.Mrs. Steckel founded the first foreign office of France Telecom in 1979 and later served as President of France Telecom North America, until 1999. Previously, in 1969, Mrs. Steckel founded the French Industrial Development Agency, a New York organization that assists American companies interested in business opportunities in France.She headed this organization, - the Regional Development Agency of France - until 1976.For the two years following, Mrs. Steckel was Communications Director of the Jacques Chirac political campaign for the 1978 elections in France. Mrs. Steckel holds a Masters degree in political science from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris; did graduate work in political science at Yale; and attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.She is active in French-American affairs and sits on the boards of the French-American Chamber of Commerce and the French-American Foundation, as well as being affiliated with a number of business boards, such as: CME - Central European Media Enterprises Group; Andante.com; the Lepercq-Istel Fund; and IBNet. Mrs. Steckel has also been awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite, the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and the Legion d'Honneur by the French Government.Mrs. Steckel is a citizen of France, married to Raymond F. Steckel.
