Patti Graham, center manager, said Tuesday she found out about the closing July 14. The center is located at 308 W. Franklin.Graham said a final closing date has not been determined. She said the 150-person work force notified of the closing was a "skeleton" staff. "At our peak times, we employ from 200 to 250 people," she said."The industry has not been what it was." Graham said TCIM was contracted by other companies like America Express. It offered full-service outsourcing, including calls to current cardholders to offer additional services. "With the economy the way it is, many companies are not outsourcing like they were," she said."They are using their own internal call centers to do what we do." She said telemarketing "no-call" regulations have not had much affect on the business because TCIM does not cold-call from random lists. Graham said she went to work for TCIM shortly after it opened in 1991 when she was a stay-at-home mom who wanted to work at night. She worked her way up through the ranks to management. She said there are a lot of people in Stillwater and the surrounding towns that will feel the impact of the closure. "We have a lot of people from Oilton, Morrison, Pawnee and other area towns who come here to work," she said."We also have a lot of single moms, people who need to work a flexible second job and elderly people who want to supplement their Social Security." Graham said she has also been taking calls in the past week from Oklahoma State University students who will be returning to school next month and want to return to their jobs at TCIM. "There is no where else they can go that will work around their class schedules," Graham said. Graham said the call center was a great place to gain work experience. "There are a lot of people who do this job because they aren't qualified to do anything else," she said."There are also those who do this job that aren't physically able to do other jobs." Graham said TCIM was also a big employer of high school students. "We've given a lot of high school students their first jobs," she said. Graham said she has an experienced staff and has no doubt they will find other jobs. "The company has offered opportunities for some to relocate or commute to our other call centers in the state," she said.
