Asian Honda Motor Co, Ltd. was established in Thailand in October, 1964 to act as a distributor of motorcycles. It was Honda Motor Co., Ltd.'s first direct corporate presence in Southeast Asia, but not the first in the Asia-Oceania region. That accolade goes to Atlas Honda Ltd. in Pakistan which was established in 1962. In 1996 Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd., by then a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., was officially designated as Honda's ASEAN Regional Headquarters with responsibility for coordinating Honda's activities in the 10 ASEAN countries and supporting Honda operations in some other countries within the Asia-Oceania Region. In mid-2004 Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd. became Honda's Asia&Oceania Regional Headquarters.
