U.S.-born Hispanics are younger, on average, than those born in another country. The median age of U.S.-born Hispanics is 18, compared to 40 for foreign-born Hispanics, and 42 for non-Hispanics. Radio reaches 90% of Hispanics regardless of generation, according to Narvaez, who spoke at the Nielsen Client Conference in Washington on Friday. And the cities Hispanic listeners live in affect their audio listening. Hispanics in San Antonio probably don't speak Spanish or listen to Spanish radio, compared to Miami, where Hispanics are more likely to speak Spanish and listen to the top Spanish formats, she said.

COLUMBIA, MD; March 26, 2013 - Arbitron Inc. (NYSE:ARB) announced today that Monica Narvaez has been appointed Hispanic Broadcaster Account Specialist.
In this newly created role, Ms. Narvaez will focus on further strengthening the partnerships Arbitron maintains with its Hispanic broadcasting customers. Her new responsibilities include: Promoting the power of Spanish-Language Radio Generating solutions to help address Hispanic Radio group needs Developing programs for Spanish Radio group training initiatives Ms. Narvaez specializes in providing Hispanic media insights and training for Spanish- Language Radio broadcasters. In addition, she is the lead at Arbitron for the promotion of Spanish-Language Radio and its unique value for advertisers in reaching Hispanic consumers. Ms. Narvaez has been at Arbitron for 10 years working with programmers, on-air talent, market managers, corporate management, and sales executives. She was directly involved in the launch of PPM® for every Hispanic Radio market in the western United States. Prior to her work at Arbitron, Ms. Narvaez was a web trainer for Nielsen, working with TV station research directors and sales executives using Scarborough Research. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Houston in media production and broadcast journalism.
