Michelle Giger, Director, New MexicoMichelle Giger's father, Phil Bovee, was murdered by a drifter in Santa Rosa, New Mexico in 1984.For the past few years, as a volunteer, Michelle has done grassroots organizing and lobbied for repeal of the death penalty in her state.She is a co-founder of the New Mexico MVFR group, and she serves on the steering committee of the New Mexico Coalition to Repeal the Death Penalty and the State Bar's task force that is studying endorsing a moratorium.She says, "I will work for repeal until we abandon this inhumane, wholly ineffective, and cost-prohibitive method of holding accountable those who kill.
