LLCS Leadership - Lowcountry Leadership Charter School, Hollywood SC

Melanie Jager
Melanie, a Charleston native, attended Charleston County Public Schools, where she decided, at the age of 10, she wanted to become a teacher. After graduating from Columbia College, her dream quickly became a reality. She taught for Charleston County School District from 1995 until 2002 and also taught within the Charleston private school sector until 2009. In 2010, Melanie was contracted by Charleston County School District again; this time as a curriculum writer. She has actively been involved with a variety of curriculum and school development projects ever since. As a founder of LLCS, Melanie assisted in the writing of the LLCS Mission and Vision in December of 2011. She was instrumental in determining the overall school concept and educational program designed for the charter application. During the application year, she created and managed the writing of the LLCS LEAD Curriculum Framework as well as facilitated the development of the LLCS Educational Program. Upon approval of the charter application by the South Carolina State Department of Education in May of 2012, Melanie became the Curriculum Chair for the LLCS Planning Year Committee. As such, she continued to research evidence-based best practices in education in order to help direct the selection of curriculum tools and instructional strategies as well as efficient assessment models that would support a successful first year implementation. In April of 2013, Mrs. Jager was selected as the LLCS Leader of Curriculum Interaction. As a member of the LLCS Leadership Team, Melanie works with teachers, parents, and the community regarding issues that pertain to curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Her appreciation of this opportunity is only matched by her passion for ensuring educational continuity through well-thought out high quality educational opportunities that support the development of students who are ready for the future.
