Yantis: Jarrell lawsuit will not impact consulting work in Liberty Hill
Bookmark and Share (Posted: Jan. 22, 2011) A consultant for the City of Liberty Hill says that although his primary employer is being sued by a former employee, he is not named as a party in the lawsuit. Mel Yantis, who works full-time for the City of Jarrell as City Manager, has a month-to-month agreement with the City of Liberty Hill for consulting services. He told Radio Free Liberty Hill this week that he does not know all the facts of the case because the City of Jarrell has not yet been served with the legal documents. Yantis said Ms. Chelf was hired by the City of Jarrell in February 2010 and was highly qualified. "This is a small town and the City Secretary has to also handle financial work," Yantis told Radio Free Liberty Hill. "When it became apparent that there wasn't enough time to do both things, we had to hire a consultant and cut her hours. "When her job was restructured, she felt like she was being discriminated against," he said. Yantis said he did not expect the issue to have any impact on his work in Liberty Hill. Yantis was hired by the City Council to consult on matters that would normally be handled by a City Administrator if the City employed one. He said he does not supervise employees and has a contract that is renewable on a monthly basis. Yantis, who at one time said he would seek the Administrator's position when it became available, did not submit an application prior to the Dec. 31, 2010, deadline. "I didn't apply for it," he said. "I thought things were going to settle down," he said.
