970.925.3122 ext. 1# Maurice LaMee Maurice LaMee is the Director of Aspen Words, a literary program of the Aspen Institute, which hosts a major literary festival - Aspen Summer Words, as well as author talks, readings, residencies, fellowships, workshops, and a growing educational outreach program for middle and high school students. With a superb team, Aspen Words has forged many partnerships with local non-profits, Aspen Fringe, Aspen Film, Aspen Ideas, The Wheeler, Red Brick Arts, local libraries, Explore, as well as CMC and all of the public and private middle schools and high schools of the Roaring Fork Valley. He was the former Executive and Artistic Director of the Creede Repertory Theatre (CRT), a position he held from 2000 until the summer of 2012. During his tenure at CRT he helped transform the small summer stock company located in a remote and isolated part of Colorado into one of the most accomplished and highly acclaimed professional arts organizations in the Southwest. CRT received a multitude of national and regional accolades, including Outstanding Achievement in Theatre from the National Theatre Conference (previous winners include The Public, American Repertory Theatre, Steppenwolf, and the Goodman). In 2011, LaMee was named Colorado's "Theatre Person of the Year" by the Denver Post. In 2010 the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation awarded him a Livingston Fellowship for his contribution to the Colorado nonprofit sector.

Maurice LaMee, Artistic Director of the Creede Repertory Theater, was named The Denver Post Theater Person of the Year at an awards ceremony held in late December.
LaMee, who has been running the Creede Rep for 11 years, won the title in the 11th Annual Ovation Awards for his work with the theater company that resides in a town of 400 and contributes more $6 million a year to the state economy, according to The Denver Post. Post staff determine the annual award winners but LaMee was also chosen for the award by additional "readers choice" in an online survey.
