Martin Hansen Covington & Burling LLP1201 Pennsylvania Avenue, NWWashington, DC 20004-2401Martin Hansen is a special counsel in the firm's Washington office, where his practice focuses on information technology, intellectual property, and life sciences.He represents clients on a broad range of domestic and international regulatory matters, including intellectual property protection, electronic commerce, and trade law.He routinely represents leading software developers and industry trade groups on IT security and online liability issues.Mr. Hansen's international experience includes three years in Covington & Burling's London office, where he represented IT firms and industry trade groups before international organizations, the European Commission and several EU Member State governments.He was specifically involved in negotiations surrounding the EU E-Commerce, Copyright, and Electronic Signatures Directives.Mr. Hansen graduated with distinction from Stanford Law School in 1991, where he served as a notes editor of the Stanford Law Review and received the Review's Board of Editor's Award.He graduated summa cum laude from Yale College in 1987, after which he studied at the Free University in Berlin on scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service.Before joining Covington & Burling, he clerked for Judge Nathaniel R.
