Lucia has had a wide variety of professional working experiences.She began by working for the office of intergovernmental affairs compiling research for the White House Conference on Children and Youth in Washington D.C.This was during the Nixon administration when interns where not such a hot commodity.Nevertheless, it was an exciting time to be working in D.C.Lucia subsequently founded and directed the Lake County Youth Federation which established a neighborhood food co-op and provided youth in the area with activities focused on community involvement.While attending nursing school she gained experience working in the Emergency Room of a large metropolitan hospital.Following nursing school Lucia worked for several years in a surgical intensive care unit, as a school nurse for three elementary schools and one junior high school, and then became the Director of Nursing Quality Assurance for Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. After moving to Fresno, Ca.Lucia returned to school to obtain her master's degree in nursing with a clinical speciality in holistic nursing.Lucia worked at the University for six years teaching Psychiatric nursing, Nursing Leadership and a graduate course in Nursing Theory.Lucia along with her teaching partner, Jeanie Gold, now teaches both Phase I and Phase II of The Certificate Program in Holistic Nursing.In addition, Lucia is a faculty advisor for Phase III students.She has been active in her community promoting educational programs on wellness and has founded and directed The Visions in Healthcare Council and established the Institute for Health, Healing and Well Being at California State University. Her interests include hiking, backpacking, golfing and paranormal experiences such as cosmic consciousness.In addition to teaching, Lucia maintains a practice in holistic nursing that incorporates counseling, body work, and energy healing.She resides in Fresno Ca. with her husband, Rod, and their daughter Christy, who is a senior in high school.She occasionally sees their 19 year old son, David, who is attending college at UC Davis.The Thornton household is also home to Blacky, a big black dog, and four female cats that represent four generations of felines.Rascal (great grandma); Whiskers (grandma); Greyhound (mother); and White Sox (daughter). "For all of my life I have been interested in studying the phenomena of healing and understanding the process of evolution and the experience of consciousness.I feel so blessed to be able to teach in the Certificate Program in Holistic Nursing.The program is one that changes peoples lives and is the impetus for much personal healing and transformation.
