Lillian Dunn ThomasTennessee State University holds Homecoming celebrationBy: Staff ReportsTennessee TribuneOriginally posted 10/22/2002 Tennessee State University will celebrate Homecoming 2002 October 20-26.This year's Homecoming honoree is Lillian Dunn Thomas; the parade Grand Marshal is Wilmer Cooksey.Lillian Dunn Thomas is a retired home economist who taught in numerous schools during her career.She is much involved in the community through her church, her sorority, and civic, educational and community affairs. She is the past president of the Vocational Teachers Organization; past president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; past president of the Nashville Chapter of the Links; a member of the Mayor's Beautification Board; a Workshop on Leadership consultant; and much more.Among Dunn's numerous awards are the Service Award from the Pi and Alpha Psi Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Kappa Lambda Omega Chapter and Alpha Delta Omega Chapter awards; "Soror of the Year;" Southeastern Region Alpha Kappa Alpha Hall of Fame, Huntsville, Ala.; Alpha Kappa Alpha National Service Award; Aaron Douglas Award; John Work Foundation, Nashville Chapter of Links; and Meharry Volunteer Services.Thomas graduated from Tennessee State A&I College and attended Columbia University Teachers College, Fisk University, the University of Tennessee, Ikabana School of Art in Japan, and Trevecca College.
