Laura Speed (Mentorship Chair)
Laura Speed became assistant director of Governmental Affairs for the Judicial Council of California on October 1, 2013. As assistant director, Laura manages the office's legislative and budget advocacy operations. Ms. Speed has served as the governmental relations and legislative officer for the County of Sacramento, as division chief in the Office of Stakeholder Relations with the California Public Employees Retirement System, as deputy chief of external affairs at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and as a policy consultant for the Senate Republican Policy Office. In addition, she serves as an adjunct professor at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where she currently teaches a course in practical and persuasive legal writing. Laura earned her bachelor's degree in political science from San Jose State University and her juris doctorate from McGeorge School of Law.
