Kim Bjørnqvist, head of entertainment at Nordisk since 2001, will become head of development and acquisitions. In his new post, he will oversee the company's development effort in both factual and entertainment as well as hunting down hit formats from around the world. The creation of the new post "shows how much importance Nordisk places on creating and acquiring original ideas," said Bjørnqvist."My job is to balance our inhouse formats with acquired ones," Bjørnqvist explained. Bjørnqvist was not deterred by the fact that most Norwegian networks, particularly SBS-owned TV Norge, prefer to acquire hit foreign formats themselves and then farm the production out to local companies. "Many overseas format owners see an advantage in coming to producers first, as we will pitch their formats with a bit more energy," he said."We are seen as a solid production house by all the networks here and not all Norwegian broadcasters need to acquire formats for all Scandi territories."Nordisk has previously imported UK formats like Celador's Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Granada's My Kind of Music, which ran for two seasons in Norway.Prior to joining Nordisk in 2001, Bjørnqvist was in the ad game, having previously been executive vice president of the Publicis Group in Norway. In January 2003 he was elected president of the Norwegian Association of Advertising agencies.
