Kelly Knight Kelly Knight has worked for the New Mexico Cooperative Extension Service (CES) for seventeen years. Since 2006, she has served as the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Agent for Otero County CES. In, addition Kelly also serves as the County Program Director in the Otero County CES Office. She began her Extension career in 1999, as the 4-H Home Economist in Bernalillo County. Kelly was born and raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico where she attended New Mexico State University. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1998 and a Master of Science degree in 2004, both in Family and Consumer Sciences. As an FCS Agent she plans and delivers research-based education programs for individuals and families of Otero County in the areas of nutrition, health and wellness, basic financial management, family life, and food preservation and safety. In addition, her responsibilities include 4-H Youth Development Programming and serving as the advisor to the Otero County Extension Association (OCEA) and Otero County Master Food Preservers Program. Kelly has served in many roles at the Otero County Fair since her tenure in Otero County. Her primary responsibility during the County Fair is overseeing the Exhibit Building where the 4-H Indoor Exhibits Department and Home Economics Department exhibits can be found. Kelly encourages 4-H youth to prepare exhibits for the fair year-round by organizing 4-H project workshops and providing guidance to 4-Hers as they work on their exhibits. In 2015, a record number of 494 exhibits were entered in the 4-H Indoor Exhibits Department. Kelly also works closely with the OCEA to recruit Otero County residents to submit exhibits in the open Home Economics department and secure volunteers to accept, judge, and display exhibits. She has organized the 4-H and FFA awards program since 2006 which includes securing donors for the indoor 4-H exhibits. Additional positions she has served in have been the Buyers Dinner Chair and assisting with the Bidders Supper for many years. Some of the major educational programs Kelly has led in the areas of Family and Consumer Sciences and 4-H Youth Development have included Kitchen Creations, a diabetic cooking school for Diabetics; The Manage Your Chronic Disease Program, a chronic disease self-management program; Ideas for Cooking and Nutrition, a program targeted for limited resource youth and adults for inspiring healthy food and lifestyle choices; Master Food Preservers, a hands-on train the trainer program to teach volunteers proper food preservation techniques; nutrition and creative arts lessons for youth at Holloman AFB Youth and Teen Center; Kids and Kows, and More, a fun agriculture and natural resource learning experience for 4th grade students; and 4-H sewing workshop series for youth in Alamogordo, Tularosa, Sacramento Mountains, and Holloman AFB.
