Senior Associate Karen Nielsen is a Senior Associate and Project Director in Optimal Solution Group's (Optimal) Health Policy Research Center. She has nearly 20 years of experience in health care delivery and financing, both in the continental United States and internationally. Mrs. Nielsen has a proven ability in strategic planning, budget management, and program officer oversight. Mrs. Nielsen's leadership skills have been developed in public and private business settings. During her term at GlaxoSmithKline, she served as a public policy leader within the biological division with responsibilities including public affairs and communications. In this capacity she also lead multi-sectoral partnerships with senior public health leaders and clinicians which focused on key public health issues including health care quality. Mrs. Nielsen is a member the American Public Health Association's International Health Section; acting as both a blog contributor and member of the advocacy committee. She is also a member of the Global Health Council. Her field experience includes public health work in urban and rural India where she assessed women, children, HIV-positive individuals, and intravenous drugs users. Mrs. Nielsen holds an M.B.A from Pepperdine University, an M.P.A. in Health Services Administration from the University of San Francisco, and a graduate certificate in Core Public Health Concepts from the University of North Carolina.
