Justice Minister Rob Nicholson has announced his support for a private member's bill that would impose further restrictions on offenders conditionally released from prison. Justice Hugh Lloyd Fraser will become the new regional senior judge for the east region of the Ontario Court of Justice this summer, the province announced last week. As a regional senior judge of the Ontario Court of Justice, Fraser will exercise the power of the chief justice in his assigned region. Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin announced last week that Fish had written to Justice Minister Rob Nicholson to advise that he'll retire from the country's top court at the end of the spring session. "Justice Fish has served on the court with wisdom and made enormous contributions to the court and to Canada," McLachlin said in a statement last week. "Canadians want to know that they are able to protect themselves against criminal acts and that the justice system is behind them, not against them," said Justice Minister Rob Nicholson.

The Honourable Ronald M. Laliberté, a Crown attorney with the Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario in L'Orignal, is appointed a judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Cornwall) to replace Mr. Justice D.R. Aston, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of April 30, 2013, and whose vacancy was transferred to Cornwall.
