John Speciale
John Speciale graduated in 1972 from the University of California at Santa Barbara, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Economics. He attended the Los Angeles campus of Whittier College, School of Law (formerly Beverly College, School of Law) while working as a branch manager for World Savings and Loan Association. He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1977 and was admitted to the California Bar in December 1977. Mr. Speciale immediately began his legal career at the Law Offices of Lang & Suttle in Woodland Hills, California. While there, he represented clients in a variety of civil matters, including personal injury, real estate and business litigation, estate planning, probate, and marriage dissolution. He was ultimately given responsibility for the firm's family law practice. Mr. Speciale and Mr. Burton began their joint practice in 1984 and have been practicing together as Speciale & Burton for 30 years. Mr. Speciale has concentrated his practice in the area of family law, including dissolution of marriage, legal separation and annulment, in which he negotiates, and where necessary, litigates the division of community property and debt, the confirmation of separate property, child custody, visitation, paternity, and child and spousal support, among other issues. His practice also includes preparation of Premarital, and other Marital Agreements. Mr. Speciale's practice also includes probate and trust litigation. More recently, Mr. Speciale has begun to offer marital dissolution mediation services to couples striving to avoid the high financial and emotional cost of litigation. Mr. Speciale was previously active in the Rotary Club, the Woodland Hills Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of his local Homeowners association. He was also active in coaching youth sports. Now, however, the focus of his available free time is travel with his wife of 28 years, including visits to their three grandchildren. He also fits gardening, fishing and an occasional game of golf into his schedule.
