Brakeley - Fundraising & Management Consultants JOHN W. RICK III Senior Consultant, UK & USA John Rick was born and received his education through university in St Louis, Missouri. He took an AB degree from Washington University. Subsequently he received a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Virginia and worked in marketing and brand management for four years before entering Yale University to study theology where he was awarded a Masters in Divinity Degree. He is an ordained Anglican Priest, currently serving as a non-stipendiary clergyman in both England and the United States. Throughout his years in formal education John was elected to numerous student leadership posts and received many awards and honours. Simultaneous to his academic pursuits at Yale he held the post of Assistant Master of Jonathan Edwards College, serving as the chief operating officer for one of Yale's twelve undergraduate colleges—a community of some 400 students and 100 faculties. John Rick brings a depth and breadth of development experience to each client relationship with nearly thirty years of professional fundraising experience. He began his development career as Director of Development at Brooks School, an independent school in North Andover, Massachusetts, where he raised annual giving three-fold, and identified and enlisted four new trustees who ultimately gave the School more than $20 million. During his tenure at Brooks School, he received several CASE and NAIS fundraising awards and was a frequent speaker for New England CASE/NAIS development workshops. As a Senior Development Officer at Harvard University for ten years, John's efforts raised major gifts in excess of $125 million as part of Harvard's $360 million campaign. As Director of Development at St James's School, Los Angeles, California, his leadership helped double annual giving in just two short years. He also helped to identify four potential major gift prospects worth $2 billion who could assume leadership of St James's $20 million campaign. As a consultant John has provided fundraising counsel to a variety of institutions, including St Martin-in-the-Fields; York Minster; Temple Church; Liverpool Cathedral; Dorchester Abbey; Rosslyn Chapel, Scotland; American Cathedral in Paris; Washington National Cathedral, DC; Canterbury Christ Church University; University of Glasgow; University of Liverpool University; Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth (Rome); Sarum College, Salisbury; Radley College, Oxford; Church Club of New York; The Asheville School, NC; Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption, Louisville, KY; and Columbia University (NYC). the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration and the Gray-Carrington Foundation, both at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. Through his counsel he assisted these institutions in launching capital campaigns; revitalizing a stalled capital campaign; establishing a formal fundraising programme; initiating an international fundraising programme; and establishing and training volunteer leadership committees. John resides both in London and Boston, Massachusetts.
