John BlackburnDuring his undergraduate degree John spent two years vacation time working for IMC Geophysics. The work included both practical site investigation projects using a wide variety of geophysical tools and seismic interpretation.John was sponsored by Conoco (U.K.) Limited during his MSc at Leeds University and carried out his research project with them in Aberdeen. The project was entitled 'Dealing with the impact of shallow velocity anomalies on top reservoir time/depth' and involved modelling the effects of anomalies in 2D.In December 2001, on completion of his MSc, John joined ConocoPhillips (U.K.). During his first year he worked in Geophysical Operations, and for the second half of the year was seconded to the Southern North Sea group as a seismic interpreter. This job involved analysis of the available seismic data, interpretation of a prospect in the area and extensive work on the depth conversion of data.In December 2002, John was posted to the Britannia Satellites Operations Unit in a dual exploration and development role as a geophysical interpreter.Since then, his work has included interpretation and depth conversion of the shallow sedimentary section and assessment of its prospectivity, depth conversion of a discovery and the placement of a drill centre with regard to the shallow hazards. His current responsibilities include well planning on the Callanish development and investigation of a deeper exploration play using 3D seismic data and visualisation techniques.John has been provided with extensive training throughout his time at ConocoPhillips both on dedicated courses and from company mentors. This has included an 18 month personal development program called 'Voyager', 4 weeks in the USA on courses and company introductions, and many technical and software courses.
