Congratulations to John Andruch, Amanda Benoit, Yi-Cheng Wang, Shane Williams, and Kevin Wright, who were honored by Engineers Week as New Faces of Engineering 2013.
The five are profiled at www.eweek.org, and Andruch was featured in the February 18 issue of USA Today (view PDF). Archives - New Faces 2011, 2012 John P. Andruch, III John P. Andruch, III, MS, EIT During his time in the undergraduate program at Purdue University, John Andruch was a crucial participant in ASABE's International 1/4-Scale Tractor Student Design Competition. During his first year on the team, he was the developer of the computer controls on the tractor that allowed the team to use advanced technology and revolutionize their tractor and the competition. That success led him to an opportunity to conduct summer research into new hydraulic systems. Although he had done no previous work with hydraulics, he learned quickly, and by the end of the summer he could mathematically model them for further research and experimentation. His interest in hydraulics systems continued into graduate school, where his work resulted in a patent and two conference papers. John is now an engineer in Caterpillar's Forest Products Division, where he uses his background in hydraulics, electronics, and software to generate whole-machine solutions and strategies. His main responsibilities are for the Tracked Feller Buncher, a 300+ horsepower machine that cuts and collects trees before placing them for further processing. John also offers technical expertise to other forestry machines and other machines across Caterpillar. (See E-Week profile)
