Jody Ream, general manager at Paoli Peaks, said during the ribbon cutting that the tubing facility has been in the works for eight years."We feel very fortunate to put it into action., It has been a much-anticipated project and quite challenging." Construction began in April, Ream said."I can't tell you just how many thousands of tons earth and rock we moved on this hillside to create this facility., We have 10 state-of-the-art new snow machines that are up.These things will produce, we hope, about 12 inches of snow in a 24-hour period, similar to what we do on the hill over here (at the ski slopes)." Ream said Paoli Peaks, as with any other business, has its challenges.

"Andrew has come a long way in the last three years, as far as his abilities and skill," said Jody Ream, Paoli Peaks general manager and Williams' boss.

More winter fun

Jody Ream, general manager at Paoli, said the new tubing park could boost traffic at the resort by as much as 50 percent from the current level of about 100,000 visits a season. Ream is married to Paoli's sales and marketing director. He uses the resort's Web site to write meandering letters to guests about snow conditions and weather forecasts. Although news of the park has spread mostly through word of mouth, Ream said the chutes drew almost 1,000 visitors Jan. 27, the second Saturday in operation. And due to the recent spate of cold weather, Ream said the resort has been able to build up a snow base that should last for weeks to come at both the tubing park and ski area. "The majority of people can't tell the difference between man-made snow and what Mother Nature drops out west," he said.

Predictably unpredictable weather endures, enough for general manager Jody Ream to hang hopes mostly on a sustained cold spell expected just ahead. "There's a lot of winter left," Ream said. Paoli Peaks has plenty of fans, but skiing is on hold during the current warm spell. General manager Jody Ream is hoping for sustained cold weather.
