Mr. Novak and Mr. Bases formed Novak & Bases, LLP in 1998, and their combined firm burgeoned. For more than 20 years, Mr. Bases has represented businesses (large and small) and individuals in numerous business transactions and in litigation matters. Mr. Bases has often acted in a general counsel capacity for companies ranging from small start-ups to those approaching $100 million in sales. He assists as needed; he has drafted and negotiated software development, customization and configuration agreements, system license agreements, outsourcing agreements, equipment and real property leases, purchase and sale agreements (of real property, assets and corporations), employment and independent contractor agreements and other agreements, confidentiality agreements, non-disclosure agreements, indemnity agreements, and other various agreements, documents, and legal instruments. For his entire career, Mr. Bases has successfully represented clients in various highly contested civil litigation matters, including business and real estate fraud, breach of contract, wrongful employment practices, specific performance, unfair business practices, intellectual property disputes, domain name and trademark infringement, and negligence actions. Mr. Bases' practice has been almost exclusively referral based and he continues to represent businesses of all types in complex legal situations and litigation. He commonly provides legal advice to developers, construction firms, construction management firms, businesses, and individual investors on real property issues. He has successfully rehabilitated distressed real estate projects. His own real estate projects stretch from West Los Angeles to the beaches in central California to residential income properties in the San Joaquin Valley. Mr. Bases has developed a significant serious personal injury practice, obtaining significant recoveries in the following areas: elder abuse involving lack of supervision in an assisted-living facility, vehicle negligence resulting in car-to-car accidents and car-to-pedestrian accidents, and truck accident litigation. Mr. Bases has recovered for clients that suffered debilitating injuries including paralysis, brain injury, back injuries, and wrongful death, in extremely difficult liability proof-cases. Mr. Bases is experienced in working with excellent experts and has prosecuted cases successfully resulting in recoveries substantially beyond client expectations, some of which recoveries included awards and structured settlements paid to clients that were designed to provide support and comfort to clients for the rest of their lives.
