Jason Mollin, the Latin American bank analyst at Bear Stearns in New York, believes that foreign banks are going to find it tough to make significant acquisitions in Brazil, despite the desire to do so.
He argues that banks that already have a presence in the country can pay more for acquisitions given the economies of scale that domestic expansion implies, for example, in streamlining back-office functions.
